More about Medical Assistance

Here's a little more information, in case you're really trying to understand the system!

What do all these words mean?  What's Elderly Waiver?

If your assets are depleted, you may receive Medical Assistance (MA).

If you choose to live in a "residential setting" (like ours)  instead of a nursing home, that MA money usually comes through a program called the Elderly Waiver program.

If there is a mental disability or traumatic brain injury, MA money may come through a CADI Waiver.

To keep it simpler, you can accurately use the term "Medical Assistance" for all of these.

Whose program is this?  The state's?  The county's?  The federal government's?  The insurance company's?

Yes.  All of the above.  The MA money is a mix of state and federal funds, coming through a state program, which is managed by the counties.  You get to choose an insurance provider, who is contracted by the state to cover your medical care and pays our facility (and your doctor bills and medications).
